Swedish SILA ordered in the autumn of 1943, 7 (later extended to 10) aircrafts of the new DC-4 civilian type to be delivered after the WWII.

In May 1946 the deliveries started. In the beginning the pilots were former US bomb pilots with experience from larger aircrafts. Intense training started so that the need for pilots were secured. With the DC-4 aircrafts also the new role of flight attendants was created.

When the DC-4 arrived it was considered a fantastic airplane. A large cabin, it could reach up to 5000 kilometres and travel at 350 km/h. Even with, for the time, its good performance the DC-4 was soon #2 in SAS when the DC-6 aircrafts became avialable in 1948.

The DC-4s were eventually sold 1956, with good profit!
